Continuity and Recovery — The Restore Nobody Tested
Recovery point and recovery time as things people feel, not two acronyms. A business impact analysis worked with real numbers, four recovery tiers priced, backups that have actually been restored, and a recovery exercise run against a clock and written up honestly. An independent course, not affiliated with or endorsed by ISACA.

Вступна інформація
Everyone in this room can already recite the two acronyms. You learned them in segment R1 as an exam trap and you can answer a mixed card in three seconds. This segment does not repeat a single definition. It assumes both from the first minute and goes past them into the thing an organisation actually has to produce, which is a recovery that has been proved to work. A backup that reports success every night, and that nobody has ever read back, is a claim rather than a capability. A recovery time written in a plan and never measured is a number somebody made up. A warm standby that has never been promoted is a purchase, not a protection. The whole subject of this segment is the gap between what organisations believe about their recovery and what is true, and the way you close that gap is by doing it, timing it, and writing down what you proved and what you only assumed. Across twelve lessons you build a business impact analysis with numbers you produced, plot a loss curve that turns out to be a staircase rather than a slope, map one process outwards until it leaves your control, price four recovery tiers and recommend one, design a backup set against the failure most likely to need it, run a real restore with a stopwatch, sequence a recovery so the parallel work is actually parallel, run the whole thing against a clock on somebody who did not write it, and write the two-page report a director will act on. Every module produces a number you worked out yourself. Without that this becomes a glossary, and a glossary is the one thing continuity and recovery cannot afford to be. This is the outage half of the subject. The incident half — who declares it, who is woken, who talks to the regulator, and the tabletop that finds out whether any of it is true — is segment B5, and this segment hands to it and back at clearly marked seams. This is an independent course. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by ISACA, and it reproduces no ISACA material. The only ISACA-derived facts used are the publicly published exam domain names and weightings. Every scenario and question here was written for this course.

R1 taught the definitions and the exam trap and this module does not repeat them. It assumes both and works them into numbers. The first number you produce yourself is the size of the re-typing pile;…

There are only four recovery shapes and the product names change annually. This module names your honest tier rather than the one on the contract, prices the gap to a faster one using B2's costing…

A backup that reports success and has never been read back is a claim, not a capability. This module designs a backup set against the failure most likely to need it, lists everything a restore needs…

A recovery exercise is not a demonstration that the plan works. It exists to find where the plan is silent, and the report that follows contains three changes, not eleven. The number that decides…
